Environmental Studies
“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”
Environmental Studies curriculum is shaped in such a way that it does not only give information but also maintains that each child is able to construct his or her own understanding, knowledge, skills and attitude by exploring the surroundings.
Theme Based Learning (TBL): Classes 2 and 3
TBL is built around child centered perspective of themes. The themes with several aspects which are much available around the children are selected and planned. Interesting hands- on activities help young learners to develop and understand relationships between natural, social and cultural environment.
Project Based Learning (PBL): Classes 4 and 5
Children learn through talking and discussing with other people, both other children and adults. PBL classrooms provide opportunities to children to be able to ask deeper questions that they discuss, answer and investigate in groups. Their understanding is extended to the next level with teachers’ facilitation and guidance.
Culmination is an important stage of both TBL and PBL classrooms where students celebrate their learning and apply it in real world. Parents are called as audience to witness their child’s learning.
Educational visits and field trips to historical monuments, wildlife sanctuary, Traffic Training Park and many more sites, movie and documentary screenings, exploring different resource books, taking interviews from people, observation , expert talk are a few techniques used to make EVS classrooms at HES lively.
